Super 8 - Rocket Poppeteers Certificate

I mentioned the new JJ Abrams film, Super 8, when blogging about the Skyline Viral Promotion back in November, and now the project has moved forward a little over this festive period....

In case you have missed it all so far, Super 8 is the new movie from JJ Abrams (Cloverfield, Lost MI3), and the trailer was debuted in May 2010. Very soon after that the public picked up on a few clues within the trailer and a viral campaign kicked off, which saw people traveling to http://www.scariestthingieversaw.com/, and within days the hardcore Abrams fans had found forged newspaper clippings, coded messages, and little clues about what is coming up next.

Alongside the indecipherable code there was also a print out of a newspaper which drove people to a holding page, simply entitled http://www.rocketpoppeteers.com/ which for a few months held no further information. This site since has encouraged vistors to register to become a Rocket Poppeteer Recruit's, as well as engaging users by encouraging them to try the different combinations of switches and buttons, but with nothing to really appear yet on the net.

Now over this xmas period the guys behind the viral campiagn have sent out the next piece of the viral jigsaw, with the below certificate arriving at my door...

As can be seen there is an individual ID Code for each "recruit" accepted onto the program, as well as lots of different fleet designations from Sonic Strength Fleet, Twin Teamwork Fleet, to Super Speedflier Fleet and a few more... There is still no option on the Rocket Poppeteers site to enter the code and delve further into the viral program...

This has been a very slick and beautifully crafted viral campaign so far, slowly picking up speed over the past 6 months. With another 6 months until film release I just hope that the team behind the campaign have learnt from the mistakes in cloverfield viral project, as well as the success of the Tron Legacy viral campaign and site, and give the few thousand core fans which are engaging and talking about the film early a great opportunity down the line with exclusive showings, preview content, and more to become excited about in May 2011 and on wards...

UPDATE : 31 December - There seems to be some connection now with the site http://www.hooklineandminker.com/ which is a blog set up by Josh Minker from May 2010. He seems to be an individual who is fascinated by unique fish. The fish which could be connected to the film and could be the key is called a Coelacanth.
